'Lek' Mathar Bunnag

Founder & Managing Director

Lek earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Silpakorn University

where he was personally awarded by His Majesty King Phumiphond as a commendation of excellence in architecture.

 

At the University of Manitoba, Canada, he gained a Master's of Architecture in 1974.

 

In 1984 he graduated with a Master's of Architecture in Urban Design from the Graduate School of Design at Harvard, USA

and received a distinction for his graduate thesis on Urban Conservation under Professor Edward Sekler,

"Conservation on Cultural Heritage, Historic Monuments, Urban Space and Meaning in the Historic Core of Thailand".

 

In 2012 he was conferred an Honorary Doctorate Degree by Silpakorn University, Thailand

He was a Senior Lecturer in Architecture at the National University of Singapore from 1984-1986

and was appointed Honorary Lecturer at the University of Hong Kong from 1986-1988.

Having gained extensive and diverse experience from his own practice in Hong Kong which he started in 1988 and

with his long standing interest in South East Asian Art, Architecture and its Cultural Heritage,

he returned to Thailand in 1990 and started to focus his practice in design which involves Cultural Heritage.

In 1985 he won first prize for Urban Conservation for Singapore China Town Planning Competition.

In 1996 he won Best Hotel Design Award by Indonesian Institute of Architects for his design of Novotel Bukittinggi, West Sumatra, Indonesia

 

The a+d & Spectrum Foundation of lndia bestowed on him in 2010 'the Golden Award for Excellence in Architecture'

In 2012 he was designated a National Artist of Thailand in the field of Architecture (Contemporary).

In 2014 he was commissioned to represent Thailand in the 14th International Architecture Exhibition at la Biennale di Venezia

as Curator and Designer of the Thailand National Pavilion.

In 2017 he was on the Jury Panel for Singapore Institute of Architects' 17th SIA Architectural Design Awards

 

His resort creations around the world have received numerous accolades internationally.

Louisa Bunnag

Co-Founder & Executive Director

Louisa Bunnag studied and worked in fashion, dance and theatre from 1977 to 1989

in Hong Kong and New York City.

 

She has been widely regarded in Hong Kong as one of the pioneers

in the city's professional contemporary dance and theatre development.

 

From 1985-1989, she was on the dance faculty of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.

 

Since moving to Thailand in 1989,

she has channeled her creative energy and knowledge of the theatre arts into resort design.

 

She has been instrumental in Bunnag Architects' masterplanning and interior design projects

since the company's inception.

 

She and Lek Bunnag have designed together for the last thirty years.

Manop Phakinsri

Director

Master in Architecture (Yale University, USA)

Master in Design (Domus Academy, Milan, Italy)

Bachelor in Architecture (Silpakorn University, Bangkok, Thailand)

 

Manop Phakinsri studied under James Stirling, Richard Meier and Vicent J. Scully at Yale University

and later worked in Richard Meier's Studio in New York City.

 

He was the recipient of a full scholarship from John D. Rockefeller 3rd Fund for his studies at Yale.

 

Whilst at Silpakom, he has undertaken research in Classical Thai and South East Asian Architecture

In 1982, he studied Traditional Chinese Architecture in Qing Hua University in Beijing.

 

His South East Asian career began in Singapore in 1976 with DP Architects

and was appointed Executive Director in Design.

 

His major works in Singapore and Malaysia include

Chapel for St. Andrew's Junior College

Central Silh Temple

Jalan Cambell Shopping Centre

Tanglin Shopping Centre Phase 2 and

Thai Kem House.

 

Mr. Phakinsri  and  Mr. Bunnag  have a 30 years' history  of working together.

Clive Gray

Director

Clive Gray received his BA (Hons) degree with special commendation

from Central School of Art & Design, London

and a master's degree with Distinction

from the prestigious Central St. Martins College of Ar1 & Design.

 

From 1982 - 1993 , he was key designer in several well-known UK interior designer companies

including Deryck Healey International.

 

His career in Asia  began in 1993  as 

Project Manager/Design Director of  WILSON & ASSOCIATES, Singapore

in charge of projects including

Royal Meridien , Mumbai, India

Sheraton  Walkerhill,  Seoul, Korea

ANA Hotel & Service Apartment Complex, Jakarta, Indonesia

Borobudur Inter-Continental Hotel, Jakarta, Indonesia

Hyatt Hotel, Surabaya, Indonesia

Four Seasons Resort Hotel , Bukit Sentul , Indonesia

and  Banyan Tree Resort Hotel, Bali,  Indonesia.

 

Clive Gray and Lek Bunnag has known each other for over 20 years

and has worked together since the Vera Spa Resort in Hainan 15 years ago.

 

He is Design Director of Bunnag Architects' interior design projects.

Minna Gray

Director

B.A. (Taideteollisuus Akatemia, Finland)

PG Dip in Textile Design (Central St. Martins College of Art and Design, London)

 

Minna Gray trained in the prestigious Taideteollisuus Akatemia  in Finland

and is a Master's graduate of Central St. Martins College of Art and Design in London.

 

Her early career in Asia has been with Wilson and Associates, Singapore (1996 - 2000)

designing carpets & floor coverings; composing FF&E specifications;

selecting furniture & fabric schemes

and overseeing projects in Asia including

Shangri-La Hotel, Penang, Malaysia.,

Le Meridien, New Delhi, India

Le  Meridien,  Mumbai, India.

Le Meridien , Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Tokyu Hotel, Tokyo, Japan.

Ungasan Hotel, Bali, Indonesia.

ANA Hotel, Jakarta, Indonesia.

and Hotel Intercontinental Borobudur, Indonesia.

 

She is a passionate designer

in charge of the FF&E provision for Bunnag Architects' interior design projects

and brings a unique blend of experience and training to the company.
